Corrections Specialized Units

Most days the MCSO corrections system repeats the same general patterns of activity, flexibly adjusting itself to accommodate the inevitable changes required by so many variables and partners. There are times, however, when professionalism and safe, consistent practices aren't enough and things go bad. This is where specialty teams come in, made up of deputies having received ongoing, specialized training in a variety of skills that include advanced communication, crisis intervention, emergency response, less-lethal firearms and hostage negotiation:

The Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) was created to address critical in-custody emergencies in a responsive, orderly, and operationally sound fashion that produce safe, successful outcomes while also limiting liability to the agency and the county.

The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is a group of highly skilled negotiators that are able to use their training, experience and knowledge of the system and inmates to defuse combative or resistant situation without having to use force.
