We are committed to creating safe and thriving communities for everyone. We provide corrections, civil and public safety services to the most populous county in the state of Oregon. We serve four contract cities: Fairview, Maywood Park, Troutdale and Wood Village, and unincorporated areas, such as Sauvie Island and the Columbia River Gorge, and are responsible for keeping more than 100 miles of waterways safe.
MCSO operates two corrections facilities, is a northwest hub for secure transportation and ensures safe operations at many county buildings.
The Concealed Handgun Unit administers and manages all aspects of applying for and the issuance of concealed carry licenses. The Unit is responsible for investigating applicants and issuing concealed handgun licenses to those who meet the legal standards set by the ORS.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office operates two corrections facilities, the Multnomah County Detention Center, located inside the Justice Center in Downtown Portland, and Inverness Jail, located in Northeast Portland. The Detention Center also serves as the county’s booking and release location.
