MCSO PATCHES
For more information regarding the collection of
these patches, please contact Diane Hutchinson 503-988-4404
This
patch was produced after a design competition amongst department
members. This was the first agency wide shoulder patch. Prior to
this emblem law enforcement and corrections personnel wore job specific
emblems. The patch continues the long standing MCSO tradition of
being primarily black and yellow. In the center of the seven point
star is Multnomah Falls. This water fall is in the Columbia River
Gorge and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Oregon.
In 2003 MCSO adopted an olive green BDU style uniform for daily
wear for all members. This patch is similar to the 1988 version
except Multnomah Falls was removed for the star and replaced with
the Vista House at Crown Point in the Columbia River Gorge. The
Vista House in the middle of a seven point star has been the official
seal for MCSO since the mid 1940's. This subdued emblem was selected
because it offered enhanced officer safety in some tactical situations
and it blended well with the olive uniform. A subdued badge patch
and name tag were also implemented. The 1988 patch continued to
be worn on the traditional multi-green colored Class A uniform.
In
2007 the completely subdued look for personnel was replaced with
a more visible scheme. This patch continues the tradition of gold
and black. It also shows the long standing agency seal of the Vista
House and seven point star. The patch also incorporates a forest
green color to recognize the agency's tradition of wearing green
uniforms. An emphasis was placed on the title "Sheriff"
so that deputies could be easily recognized by the community. This
emblem is worn on both the olive green Class B or BDU uniform and
the traditional Class A uniform.
