“It's as if Oregon was designed with Human Trafficking in mind.”
Chris Killmer, Program Coordinator Outreach and Support to Special Immigrant Populations (OSSIP)
After drug dealing, trafficking of humans has become the second largest criminal industry in the world, and the fastest growing crime on the planet. Each year an estimated 17,500 men, women, and children are trafficked into the U.S. for purposes of sexual and labor exploitation throughout our states, including Oregon. But this is not just an international problem.
Over 200,000 children are at high risk for sex trafficking and sexual exploitation inside the United Sates every year. Ninety percent of these children are American citizens. In a recent nationwide FBI sting operation to rescue this population, Oregon ranked second in victims recovered - 7 victims in a single eight-hour shift. Only 39 beds exist in the entire country equipped to meet the singular rehabilitation needs of these 200,000 children. Not one of those beds is in Oregon.
Until those enslaved and living within our midst are rescued, no Oregonian is free. The Oregon Human Trafficking Task Force invites you to use this website to equip yourself for the battle we must win if we are to defeat the growing plague of human trafficking within our state.Take the 3-minute OATH now and begin making a difference.
