MCSO Fallen Heros

The Honor guard was created at the request of Sheriff Skipper in 1993 to present this and other nations flags at the American Jail Association (AJA) National Conference held in Portland.

The first Honor Guard was comprised of 15 members from both the correctional and enforcement divisions of the Sheriff's Office. After the AJA conference, the honor guard was called up to represent the Sheriff at formal events including funeral services. Prior to the inception of this unit, there was no other unit responsible for funeral details and other ceremonial events.

In 2000 the Honor guard transitioned from the standard formal Sheriff's Office dress uniform to a tunic coat-style uniform. This style of uniform is shared in the tri-county area by multiple agencies. While its colors are different to represent individual agencies, the style is similar. The MCSO Honor Guard partners with neighboring agencies during public memorial events for fallen officers or for the National Fallen Officer's Memorial Day.

Currently, the MCSO honor guard is dispatched for a variety of events including memorial services, military services, presentation of national colors at public events like public parades, Blazer Games and PAL events, and to represent the agency where appropriate.

All current MCSO honor guard members are volunteers and were selected for their professionalism and demeanor. The MCSO Honor Guard represents the demographics of the agency.
