The Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation
of all major crimes that occur in the unincorporated Multnomah County,
in the city of Wood Village and the city of Maywood. The Investigations
Division Detective Unit is comprised of ten Detectives under the
supervision of the Detective Sergeant. Cases are generated by Patrol
Deputies that respond to calls for service and from citizen contacts.
The Patrol Deputy investigating a crime in the field will do the
initial investigation and determine whether or not a Detective is
needed to respond. If no Detective is required, the Deputy will
generate a report which will be forwarded to the Detective Unit
for additional follow up. This process enables Patrol Deputies to
respond faster to your calls for service by keeping them where they
are most needed; on the streets.

Since
November 2006, MCSO has assigned a detective to the corrections
division, responsible for investigating crimes within thecounty
jails; Inverness Jail and the Multnomah County Detention Center.
The detective's duties include the investigation of crimes and follow-up
with the District Attorney's office to insure cases are properly
prepared and submitted for prosecution. With the recent passage
of the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, it is also the responsibility
of MCSO to follow up on inmate allegations of sexual assault, whether
or not the act was committed in a county facility. Sexual assault
allegations are generally initiated by an inmate.
