The Inmate Classification Unit maintains and provides system-wide management of a variety of MCSO programs that substantially contribute to the safety and security of the facilities and the general public. These programs include classification, inmate assignments to and from the Special Management Units, inmate hearings and disciplinary, INTEL and Security Threat Management (STM).
Facility Operations are significantly affected by these responsibilities. Inmate Classification ensures consistency in management of the inmate population to include: assignment of inmates to housing based upon their level of risk associated with charge, behavior and needs (over 30,000 classifications each year), separation of inmates for their individual safety or for the overall operation of the institutions, and balancing the inmate population throughout the facilities. These important responsibilities are guided by the Agencies mission to provide cost-effective prevention, intervention and detention services to the communities of Multnomah County.
Correctional
